People think they need to come to GNP during  July and August, making sure they get to experience the Going-To-The-Sun Road. But, they usually mean driving it.  We won’t argue at all, that experience GTTSR is must. However, you have to realize that it is the busiest (and some say, craziest) time of the year.  So, plan ahead! And, remember to get your vehicle reservation if you plan to drive it! But, when you come early in the season, you get to experience Glacier National Park as it reawakens from its winter slumber and spring slowly reveals all the gorgeous glory that it’s known for.  Imagine, listening and seeing the park wake up, snow melting and wildflowers begin dotting the grasses.

The Ride: Going-To-The-Sun Road ride is (up to) either 42 42-mile round trip from Lake McDonald Lodge or 32 32-mile round trip from Avalanche Trailhead. Starting at Lake McDonald (Mile 11) with a relatively flat start or Avalanche Trailhead (Mile 16) slowly increases to a steady climb after Avalanche Creek. Here are some key mile marker points of interest.
